Mount Crosby State School

Strong and Sure

Special Education

Our school supports a philosophy of inclusion for all students. A special education class to support students with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and /or Intellectual Impairment was established in 2004. Students with these disabilities are supported academically and socially in their classrooms by individualized programs that are developed collaboratively by classroom teachers, the Specialist Teacher: ASD/II and parents. These programs are implemented in the classroom setting by classroom teachers and specialist teacher-aides. The Specialist Teacher provides individual and small group instruction focusing on disability-specific needs of students.

During lunch breaks a "Friends' Club" provides an alternative to the playground and offers supervised activities that allow for social interaction and the opportunity to develop a range of social and personal skills.

A school-based Parent Support Group meets fortnightly during school hours.
